Since it’s establishment in 1996, the National College has created a history of conceptualizing and implementing tailor-made academic programs in the fields of development education.   Presently, the college offers three unique programs namely Bachelor in Development Studies (BDevS) since 1999, Bachelor in Development Finance (BDFin) since 2006, and Bachelor of Social Sciences (BoSS) since 2013.  Affiliated to Kathmandu University, these forward looking programs are designed to address the contemporary issues of national and global contexts.

PAST TRACK OF NATIONAL COLLEGE

Since 2002, already 520 students have graduated from this college.  In 2014, a tracer study of the ex-students has revealed that the graduates have been either employed in reputed organizations or pursuing for higher degrees in Nepal or abroad including India, Australia, USA and European countries.

Since 2006, the college has developed an exchange program with the Waseda University and University of Sacred Heart in Japan.  Similarly, since 2012, the UNESCO Madanjeet Centre of Development Studies and Regional Cooperation has granted scholarships for the South Asian students.

FUTURE PLAN OF NATIONAL COLLEGE

The college has started constructing its own building at Chandol near the Shankha Park of Kathmandu.  The new building will meet the requirements of the ongoing and future academic programs.

The college has a plan to expand its academic programs to the master level.  Consultations are underway with the likeminded institutions within the country and abroad.

BACHELOR IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES (BDevS) IN NATIONAL COLLEGE

Bachelor in Development Studies (BDevS) is an internationally recognized and demand driven program offered by National College and affiliated to Kathmandu University. The program focuses on Sustainable Development and Practices. It is an Interdisciplinary study of Economics, Sociology, Environment, Development Management and Research.

This programme is based on semester system, which covers four years, spread over eight semesters. Each semester consists of 16 weeks of intensive study- theoretical and practical. The program covers 127 credit hours.

MISSION OF THE PROGRAM

The main mission of this program in National Colleg is to produce sustainable development practitioners, entrepreneurs and researchers.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

National College strongly feels that this program attempts to equip its graduates with necessary Knowledge, Practical Skills on GIS (Geographical Information System), Impact Assessment, Project Management and Evaluation, Development Research and Community Mobilization.

PROGRAM SIGNIFICANCE

BDevS courses at National College are conceived by the development experts, practitioners and academicians with inputs from the local communities and international professionals. The course combination addresses the development issues of developing countries like Nepal with the regional perspectives of South Asia.  The courses are dynamic so that the faculties could maneuver the topics by reflecting on the contemporary issues from local to the global levels within the outlines of the syllabus.

PROGRAM PROSPECTS

There is a high need of sustainable development practitioners in developing countries like Nepal and graduates of BDevS become the one. BDevS graduates have got job opportunities as independent research works, NGO/INGOs, development projects, government organizations, donor agencies, corporate sectors and self-employment. They are qualified for Master in Development Studies (MDevS), Master in Sociology, Economics, Environmental Studies, Human and Natural Resource Management, Regional Planning, International Relations, Development Management, and other  socio-economic related interdisciplinary programs including MBA.

BACHELOR IN DEVELOPMENT FINANCE (BDFin) IN NATIONAL COLLEGE

Bachelor in Development Finance (BDFin) at National College is a highly demand driven and professional academic Finance Program offered by National College and affiliated to Kathmandu University. This program is designed based on sustainable Finance and Economic Development, and is internationally recognized.
The courses  ensure a high degree of flexibility covering wide range of courses from Concepts and Theories of Development, Economics, Financial Management, Investment and Entrepreneurship.
The program is based on semester system, which covers 4 years spreading over eight semesters.
Each semester consists of 16 weeks of intensive study- theoretical and practical. The program covers 131 credit hours. The curricular structure includes Business Finance, Economic Development and Research & Entrepreneurship.

MISSION OF THE PROGRAM

The main mission of this program is to produce Financial Analysts, Development Entrepreneurs and Researchers.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The program attempts to equip its graduates with necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to analyze the nature of Financial Institutions, Project Management and Entrepreneurship Development. It intends to develop students’ skills in creative thinking, decision making, leadership, communication and gain understanding of Contemporary Nepalese and Global Economy and Financial Markets.

PROGRAM SIGNIFICANCE

BDFin course at National College adopts Interdisciplinary framework incorporating Business Finance, Economic Development and Entrepreneurship. Courses like Financial Management, Investment and Market along with International Finance give the solid foundation of Business Finance. This foundation is further supported by the subjects like Mathematics, Statistics and Accounts. Inclusion of subjects like Concepts and Theories of Development, Economics, International Trade, Public Finance and Natural Resource Economics will lead to sustainability in Development, subjects like Micro-enterprise, Micro-finance, Private Sector Development, and Business Proposal Development will support the students in building their Entrepreneurship skills. Management skills are enhanced by subjects like Principle of Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management and Project Management. Combinations of Research Methods, Applied Statistics, Econometrics and Impact Assessment along with Independent Project Work enhance the vital Research Skills to the higher level.

PROGRAM PROSPECTS

National College BDFin graduates will have job opportunities in the Financial sectors (Banks and Insurances), Microfinance and Cooperatives, Enterprises Development Institutions and Research Institutions within Governmental, Non-Governmental and Private Organizations. Also, as independent researchers and business entrepreneurs, the graduates can excel. Graduates of BDFin are qualified for Masters in Finance, MBA, and Masters in Economics, Accounting, Development Finance, Development Management, MDevS and so on.

 

BACHELOR OF SOCIAL SCIENCES (BoSS) IN NATIONAL COLLEGE

Bachelor of Social Sciences (BoSS) at National College is a new unique program designed to address the holistic study of social sciences offered by National College in affiliation with again Kathmandu University. It focuses on the dynamics of the society and the social change incorporating the subjects like Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Philosophy, Political Science and Governance. This program reflects the contemporary dynamics of Nepalese and global society.

BoSS is based on semester system covering 4 years, spreading over eight semesters.
Each semester consists of 16 weeks of intensive study, theoretical and practical. The program covers 129 credit hours.

The main mission of this program is to produce social researchers, policy analysts and social entrepreneurs.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The above program at National College attempts to equip its graduates with necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to analyze the policy and work as social change agents. It intends to develop students’ skills in creative thinking, decision making, leadership, communication and gain understanding of contemporary Nepalese and global society.

PROGRAM SIGNIFICANCE

BoSS at National College program is designed to address the need of holistic study of social dynamism rather studying each of the social sciences individually. Social Sciences are inter-related to each other and the integrative study provides the students a complete picture of society with National, Regional and Global Perspectives.

National College BoSS graduates will have job opportunities in the Social Organizations, Policy Institutions and Research Institutions, I/NGOs, Government Organizations and Private Sectors. They will also be able to work as independent researchers and social entrepreneurs. BoSS graduates are qualified for Masters in Sociology, Anthropology, Culture, Philosophy, Social Psychology, International Relations, Public Policy, Master in Development Studies (MDevS), and socio-economic related interdisciplinary programs, and many others.
